Who Owns My Website and Domain Name?

Ask this before you hire anyone to build your site. Here's how ownership works with us, in plain terms, and what to check with any web designer.

How it works with us

Your domain name is yours

Always, on every plan. We charge what the registrar charges, with no markup.

Buy the site and it's yours

A starter site is $400 and a business site up to 10 pages is $1,800. Once it's paid for, the site is yours.

Managed sites are ours until you buy them

A managed plan has no build fee, so we own the site while you're on the plan. You can buy it from us any time at the listed price.

Your Google profile stays yours

When we manage your Google Business Profile, you stay the owner and add us as a manager.

Questions to ask any web designer

Whose name is the domain registered in?
If I leave, do I get my site, and what does it cost?
Who owns the logo, photos, and text you made for me?
Who has the logins for my hosting and my Google Business Profile?
What happens to my site if I stop paying the monthly fee?

Why it matters

Whoever controls your domain name controls your web address and any email on it. Getting it back from someone else can take time and money. Ask before you sign, and get the answer in writing.

Common questions

Do I own my website?
